                            Joint MBA/JD program

                            Joint MBA/JD Program

The University of New Brunswick offers a Joint MBA/JD program ( Master of Business Administration and Juris Doctor ) which allows students to receive both degrees in four years. The joint degree program is an option for students who want to add a business component to their law studies. Applicants must apply and be accepted to each program separately. The eligibility requirements and selection procedures for an applicant intending to complete the joint degree program are the same as for any applicant applying to the MBA or JD program.

During the first two years of the joint program, a student would complete the first year of each degree program. Then, in the final two years, the student would be registered in the JD program and take a number of prescribed business-related law courses (that also serve as MBA electives), plus two required second-year MBA courses.

For each academic year, students would be registered in either the JD program or the MBA program, and they would pay the usual tuition fees for that program.  Typically, students attend one year in the Faculty of Business Administration  and three years at the Law School. Students accepted into the JD program are not able to defer for one year to complete the MBA first. Students would be required to reapply to the JD program the following year.

                            Admissions to joint MBA/JD

An undergraduate degree is normally required for entry into the joint MBA/JD program. However completion of the first year of the JD program combined with three years of post-secondary study may be deemed equivalent to an undergraduate degree.

Students accepted into the JD program are not able to defer for one year to complete the MBA year first.

                            JD/MBA (Joint Degree Program)

The School of Law and the College of Business Administration (CBA) offer joint programs in legal and administrative studies JD/MBA. This combination  may be of interest to students preparing for careers in such areas as corporate law. or legal practice in government. The total amount of time required to complete a joint degree program is shorter than the time required to complete both programs independently because some required courses in one college fulfill course requirements in the other college. The reciprocal acceptance of course credits by each school is the essence of the joint program.

                            Admission Requirements

In order to pursue the JD/MBA cooperative program, the student must apply to, and be accepted by, both the School of Law and the College of Business Administration. Students should apply to the School of Law first. Once accepted the student can then use their LSAT in place of the GMAT for their College of Business Administration application. The student should contact each college independently for information concerning admission criteria and procedures. Individuals with baccalaureate degrees in any field of study are eligible to apply for a joint program.
